Our Christmas Letter
Cheney Adventures of 2010
We have traveled a LOT this year. From Washington to Utah to Iowa and California, we feel as if there are few places in the good ol’ US of A that we haven’t been to. In our travels we’ve been incredibly blessed to spend much time with Mom and our family prior to her passing. We think about her often and are so grateful for the impact her incredible example and constant love still have on us. When not on the road, settling down in Houston and making more and more friends here has been a complete joy.
Ben has been very busy with his new job teaching high school U.S. history to 11th graders. He loves the new district he works in and the team he works with. He has received many praises from his administrators and students for being such a wonderful teacher (which he would never tell anyone himself, so that is why his wife typed this). He has participated in many school dress up days (ninja turtle, disco dancer, nerd and for Christmas he sported an ugly sweater). With the ward change he is now serving the young men in the ward. He has loved serving them and teaching them things like glow in the dark ultimate frisbee and how to play the ukelele. Ben has stayed physically active while playing volleyball, basketball, disc golf, and teaching Stacie how to play tennis.
Stacie is working at Spence Elementary for her second year as a Bilingual Aid in the classroom. She has seen her fair share of kids wetting their pants and uncontrolable vomitting to last her a while until she has her own kids. She has been busy teaching the computer class this year and translating various documents and interpretting various meetings for the school. Stacie has been serving the youth this past year in two different callings. First as a the beehive then Laurel teacher and then in her new ward as the 12-13 yr. old Sunday school teacher (which Ben also attends to help out). Couponing and reading have become two of her greatest and most enjoyable hobbies. She has been researching her family’s history a lot this past year. Stacie flashed back to her highschool days and strapped on her old softball cleats and played in a softball tournament with her friends the Mitchells. She was sore for a week afterwards, but enjoyed reliving her glory days. The best times are the quiet times spent with Ben at home. He continues to surprise and amaze her daily.
